How We Verify Our Identity Before Every Call
How We Verify Our Identity Before Every Call

In this article:
At The Bitcoin Way, security and trust are foundational. As technology evolves, so do the risks around impersonation, scams, and fraud. Because we work with Bitcoin and self-custody, we take these risks seriously and build protections before problems arise.
One of the systems we use to protect our clients is our anti-phishing word verification system, which now also applies to video calls. This article explains what that means and why it matters.
Why This Is Necessary
In recent years, new types of threats have emerged that make impersonation easier than ever. These include:
1. AI impersonation
Advances in AI make it possible to imitate voices, writing styles, and even behavior. While these tools can be useful, they can also be abused by bad actors pretending to be someone they are not.
2. Scam emails pretending to be us
Scammers sometimes send emails that look like they come from trusted companies, asking clients to get on a call, click a link, or take urgent action. This is a common attack vector in Bitcoin-related businesses.
3. Deepfakes
Video and audio deepfakes can now convincingly imitate real people in live or recorded settings. This makes traditional face recognition or voice recognition insufficient on its own.
Because of this, simply seeing or hearing someone on a call is no longer enough to prove identity.
Our Solution: Anti-Phishing Word Verification
Each of our clients already has two unique anti-phishing words associated with their account. These words are known only to you and The Bitcoin Way and are never shared publicly.
We are extending this system to video calls.
What Will Happen Before Each Call
At the start of your scheduled call, a member of The Bitcoin Way team will verbally confirm your two anti-phishing words.

- If the words match what you have on record, you know it is really us.
- If they do not match, the call should not continue.
That is the entire process. No additional steps are required from you.
Why This Protects You
This system protects against:
- AI impersonation, because AI does not have access to your unique anti-phishing words
- Scammers sending fake emails, because even if someone tricks you into joining a call, they cannot verify themselves correctly
- Deepfakes, because visual or audio realism alone is not enough without the correct words
This is a form of shared-knowledge verification. It is simple, effective, and extremely difficult to fake without internal access.
What We Will Never Do
For clarity and safety, The Bitcoin Way will never:
- Ask for your private keys or seed phrase
- Change call links at the last minute
- Ask you to bypass this verification step
If any of these things happen, stop and contact us through our official channels.
Why We Take This Approach
Bitcoin is about sovereignty, responsibility, and self-custody. That philosophy applies not only to money, but also to identity and communication.
We prefer simple systems that work reliably over complex systems that create friction. Using anti-phishing words allows us to protect our clients without adding unnecessary complexity or fear.
This is one more way we ensure that when you speak with us, you know exactly who you are talking to.
